#107; the great debate
I am a loyal Crackberry owner. I loved my Zune so much, I bought two of them. I still use Winamp. I don’t appreciate monopolies, particularly in my user interface, and so I have done everything I can to steer completely free of Mac products. The entire Mac culture gives me the creeps, to be honest. I went to an Apple store once with a friend who needed to pick something up, and I felt more watched over than I do in a Catholic church. Being inside those too-brightly-lit white walls made me feel like maybe Big Brother wasn’t a thing of fiction.
But then a few weeks ago my Zune was pick-pocketed. And I’m looking at needing to open an iTunes account for the first time (because Derek Evry’s releasing his solo cd on it, and I have to have that cd, even if it means contemplating opening an iTunes account against my better judgement). And I’ve been thinking, has my preconditioned hatred of all things Apple kept me from a superior musical experience? Does my distaste for ‘iPhone people’ change the way I interact with the world & the technology that moves it?
What it really comes down to is this: I can fit more music for less money an iPod Nano than on anything else.
Heavy questions, my friends. What are your thoughts? I’m still not giving up my Blackberry Tour for anything in the world (seriously, it could BE Big Brother in a PDA, and I’d swear my allegiance), but would branching out in this one tiny way be the beginning an all too dangerous, slippery slope? Or would I be safe from the black turtlenecks of the world?

I just have to laugh. I HATED Macs for the longest time. HATED. WITH A PASSION. But, you know the story of how my Compac laptop fried and died just like Kat’s did in college and how I literally polled everyone I could ask about what kind of laptop to buy. I swear that everyone who had a PC was not happy, hated the customer service, hated the laptop, wished they had a different kind of machine and swore they would buy something different the next time. The ONLY people who didn’t were Mac users. So, I took my friends’ (and strangers’) advice and bought a MacBook. It took a little getting used to, but honestly? After a couple of months, I swear I would never go back. If Apple keeps up their fantastic customer service, easy user interface, and pretty graphics, I’ll be there for life.
But, this comes from the girl with the MacBook, iPhone, and iPod. – Although, I’ve had my iPod for over 5 years now and never had a problem with it that wasn’t fixed quickly and easily. It’s long outlasted most of my friends mp3 devices and I still love the darn thing – even though it’s black and white, no color, no video, nothing fancy. It’s my constant companion.
Hmmmm, well, I’m old school, and the last thing I need is another electronic device, so I’m all for stereos (at home, in the car, boombox, you name it). So yeah, I still rock the massive CD travel binders, hehehe.
But I’d say to go ahead and go for it. I actually signed up with iTunes just to check out Andy’s old Podcasts back when he was doin’ the Live Humans In DC open mics in DC everywhere. Ah, the good ole days…sure do miss Andy.

Bill Gates is the devil.
iTunes is easy; and I can’t take the turntable with me when I walk the dog.
Finally, a Shuffle can be replaced with couch change.
Go for it.
Go with an android phone…I have an HTC Magic…I really like it…would not buy an iphone.
